Low Rarity-5, (about 30-50 or so known) according to Anderson, THE PRICE OF LIBERTY, measuring 5.5” x 3.5” with typical hole cancel near the upper center, overall completed in manuscript and boldly printed in appearance. Issued for £20 (Pounds and not dollars!), “...according to the act of assembly to settle and adjust the accounts of the troops of this State in the Service of the United States...”. This example has a large indented left margin, outer edge nibbed at the lower right corner. The blank reverse has an interest payment notation with the official “Mark” of John Ashmore, dated February 24th, 1783.
John Ashmore of Harford County, MD. who was born circa 1755. He was the son of William Ashmore, who was the son of Walter Ashmore of Baltimore County, MD. Revolutionary War pay records for John Ashmore are now on footnotes.com. He was with the 7th Maryland Regiment under Capt. John C. Jones and Capt. Henry Hardmman, and the Commander was Col. John Gunley. A couple of the records were dated June and Sept 1778. On Oct 1784 he was paid the large amount of $43.30. In 1795 John Ashmore received Warrent #10,931 for 100 acres of Federal Bounty Land. This is listed in "Maryland Federal Bounty Land Grants, Part II. The Index on page 664 of "Muster Roll & other Records of Service of Maryland Troups in the American Revolution 1775-1783."
