1782 Jewish Passport - Lyon, France
1782 Jewish Passport - Lyon, France. Passport for a Jewish man from Holland, Goudukau Meyer, and giving him the right to remain in Lyon for eight days to carry out his trade, dated May 10, 1782, Lyon, France, 1 page, 13¼ x 8½ in. The document certifies that Meyer is properly registered with the police, that they have seen his passports and are keeping them until his departure. This document was specially made for Jews. Printed "Juif" [Jew] at upper right and "Ville de Lyon. Police" at upper left. A physical description of the 26-year-old man is given, including the fact that his nose is "well made." Several notations are penned by French officials, showing that Meyer used the passport in Lyon more than once. Some foxing and staining, archival repairs on verso and paper replacement at right margin. Overall very good.
Estimated Value $500 - 750.
