Listed by Anderson in THE PRICE OF LIBERTY as MA-21. Rarity-5 (31-75 known). Partially printed Document, completed in manuscript, measuring 5” x 10.5”, paying Richard Hubbard £252 on or before March 1,1781, for his contribution towards “this STATE’S Quota of the CONTINENTAL ARMY, agreeable to the Recommendation of CONGRESS, and for Supplying the TREASURY with a SUM of Money for that purpose.” Signed “H(enry) Gardner” as Treasurer of Massachusetts; also signed by “Thos Dawes” and “R(ichard) Cranch”. Gardner’s signature with light triple “X” cancelation. Minor soiling. This historic note features an intricate, ornately engraved scrolled border design, along with a lovely embellished “State of Massachusetts Bay” title. A choice impression with great large margins providing nice eye appeal that is excellent for display.
