1780 Revolutionary War Bounties For Those Who Enlist From a Connecticut Brigade Into The Continental Army
July 13, 1780-Dated, Revolutionary War Period Manuscript Pay Order, Brigadier General Silliman’s Command, Very Fine.
An original, Manuscript Document Signed, “Timothy Finch” measuring 8.25” x 6.75” at Hartford (CT). Being a Pay order for the command of Brigadier General Silliman. Folds, edge chips, minor paper loss at left upper edge where seal was opened not affecting text. Document reads:

“Recd of the Pay Table Committee an Order on the Treasurer for Two Thousand seven hundred and twenty seven pounds Connecticut Currency to pay the Bounties of the three months men that are raised and raising from the militia of the first Brigade in this state; and also the Bounties of those who enlist from said Brigade into the Continental Army Recd for and in Behalf of B. General Silliman, and for which he is to account.” Docket on the blank reverse reads: “B. Genl. Silliman’s Rect. for $2,727.0.0 to account - July 13, 1780.”
General Gold Selleck Silliman b. 1732, was an American Revolutionary War Militia General who fought in the New York Campaigns of 1776 and commanded a local body of militia cavalry. He became a Brigadier General after 1776. His soldiers patrolled the Southwestern border of Connecticut from the marauding Tory Loyalists of Westchester County, New York.
