Autographed note signed “Chas W Peale”, dated 29 January 1780. Also signed by Wm. Hollinshead and Jacob Schreiner, all three members of the ''Committee of Assembly'' responsible for the repair of Independence Hall where, of course, the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence were signed. Addressed to David Rittenhouse Esq., letter reads: “Please to pay unto Mr. Jacob Greiner the Sum of Four Hundred and Seventy eight pound, Seven Shillings & Six pence, for Nails Used on the Stadt House and public Stables.” One page, 6.75” x 3”. Uneven right edge and mounting strip to top edge on verso. Good condition.
