July 17, 1779-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Request and Receipt for a Delivery of “...ten hundred weight of Powder...,” Farmington, Connecticut, Choice Very Fine.


An original Manuscript Document, measuring 8.5” x 4.25” well written in deep brown upon 2 pages (back to back), Farmington, Connecticut. Being a request from Brigadier General Hart for Gunpowder. Reads in part, “Please to deliver to the bearer Mr Hinsdale ten hundred weight of powder...” The second page is the actual receipt, Signed by Elijah Hinsdale which reads, “Glastonbury July 18th 1779 Recvd one thousand and fourty two weight one quarter od powder to Deliver to General Hart for the use of this State.” This document requests powder from the George Stocking Black Powder Factory which was then blown up. Black powder was being confiscated by the British to destroy America’s ability to fight. It is in lovely, clean condition with normal folds and is easily readable for display.
