Slightly glossy chocolate and golden brown, Attractive and free of defects showing only light friction on the highpoints of the devices. Admiral Keppel was subjected to a court martial in 1779 after leading a naval battle against the French off the coast of Brittany (the Battle of Ushant). He was charged with negligence but was vindicated and became a national hero in the process. (Your cataloger, a veteran military officer, has seen several instances where there appeared to be a very thin line separating an awards ceremony from a disciplinary proceeding for the same event.) Weight 275.2 grains, diameter 34.6 mm, struck in medal turn (head-to-head). 926045.40/47560336 Ex eBay 4/2006-Sydney F.
