<B>1778 Indenture from the Reign of George III for Land in Norfolk.</B></I> Large manuscript document, vellum, one page, 21.5” x 27”, dated May 15, 1778, whereby an agreement is made between Edward Smith and Nicholas Raven for certain properties in Norfolk County. With a red wax seal virtually intact and the verso of document contains additional endorsements. The jagged edge at the top of these types of legal documents were as a result of duplicate copies written on the same sheet. The copies were separated by cutting along a jagged (toothed, hence the term "indenture") line so that the teeth of the two parts could later be refitted to confirm authenticity.
