This gorgeous, superb quality 1778 Copper-Plate Engraving by Juste Chevillet, is After the famous Painting by Joseph Duplessis, Paris, dated 1778. Engraving is titled: "Benjamin Franklin Né à Boston, dans la Nouvelle Angleterre, le 17 Janv. 1706.” It measures about 8.25” x 12.25" being printed on a large 9.75” x 14” sheet of high quality heavy period paper. The French populous truly adored Franklin, and he adored them. Many French households had an engraving of Ben Franklin on their mantelpiece or wall. Without his service and influence, the French would not have been forthcoming with the aid which was instrumental in winning the American Revolution. Upon his death in 1790, the French National Assembly declared a month of mourning for the man they called, "the genius who freed America and shed torrents of light upon Europe."
