1777 Revolutionary War Manuscript, 14th Mass.
1777 Revolutionary War Manuscript from the 14th Massachusetts. One page, 8.25" x 14.5", Massachusetts, October 25, 1777. This was written after the Battle of Saratoga, which occurred on two separate days in 1777, September 19 and October 7. It tallies the strength of the 14th regiment immediately following its participation in this tide-turning battle. Having fought less than three weeks earlier, this regiment was still in that area, assisting in capturing the remainder of Burgoyne's troops, who were now retreating. This document clearly lists the seven companies of the Regiment in multiple rows, and breaks them down in sixteen listed columns. There are great notations concerning men serving with General Daniel Morgan, as well as a listing of an officer who died as a result of his wounds. The document is in fine condition, accomplished in beautiful script, with minor edge wear, a few trivial hinge stains, a few old tears which have been repaired with tape, and water stains visible on several of the folds.
