Gem 1776 Continental Congress $1/6 FUGIO Design Note
Continental Congress. February 17, 1776. One Sixth of a Dollar. FUGIO Design. Plate A. Gem Crisp Uncirculated.
Fr. CC-19. This crisp 1776 dated Revolutionary War well printed note is the lowest denomination of the series. It is the upper left sheet margin note with its Jumbo full wide outer sheet margins present at top and left. All details of the text and designs are sharply printed and distinct on its bright, fresh clean paper. The obverse FUGIO Sundial design vignette by Benjamin Franklin was also used for the 1776 Continental Dollar and later in 1787 for the FUGIO Cent. The reverse design showing the Thirteen Chain Linked States is perfectly centered with four printed outer borders with the Jumbo sheet margins present. The signature of “T Coombe” and serial number are written in vivid bright rich red, adding eye appeal. The paper is perfectly clean and fresh in appearance. Overall, a lovely original example of this highly popular FUGIO note.
