Colonial America
1702 to 1776 “New Jersey Acts” Printed by Colonial New Jersey Printer of Currency Isaac Collins
1776-Dated Revolutionary War Peirod, Printed Book titled, “Acts of the General Assembly of the Province of New Jersey,” Very Good.
This is a rare, fully original bound book of New Jersey’s official legislature “Acts” covering the earliest Colonial periods from 1702 right up to 1776. This book measures 13.5” x 9”, folio, containing 493 pages, plus Appendix, Tables and Index. Published by Samuel Allison, printed by Isaac Collins, “Printer to the King,” at Burlington (New Jersey). This book provides original, historical insight into the earliest years of the Royal and Provincial rule of law in the Americas. This volume is well worn... but never judge a book solely by its cover. Some inside front pages have been signed “John Hopper His Book 1795,” with several practice flourishes of the pen by Mr. Hopper on the cover and inside, which is contemporary sheep, rebinding recommended as the spine is cracked and is missing a lower piece. There is some dampstaining to the lower portion of gutter margin at end of volume causing some loss to text on about 25 end pages. This book is an important historical document, printed in 1776, recording Colonial New Jersey’s history.
