1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURRENCY, Pewter, EG FECIT AU58 NGC. Crosby Pl. VIII, Breen-1095, Newman 3-D, R.3. The EG FECIT variety, with the initials EG representing engraver Elisha Gallaudet. Fecit is Latin for "made it." This near-Mint Continental dollar is of great interest to the specialist, since it shows the latest state of the reverse dies that we have been able to locate within our vaunted Permanent Auction Archives. Although Breen states, "Dies usually cracked through links," the cracks have evolved into breaks on the present piece, and nine links display the break, which consumes the S in N. HAMP'S. The obverse also has small cuds at 4:30 and 6 o'clock. Noticeable luster emerges from the unmarked and slightly wavy surfaces. Evenly struck, and pleasing despite a subtle gray obverse spot at 9 o'clock. Listed on page 81 of the 2007 Guide Book.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
