1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURENCY, Pewter XF40 Holed, Bent Uncertified.<p>Breen-1089. Crosby Pl. VIII, 15. Newman 1-C. As always, the denticles are only partially complete, which is diagnostic of the variety. While technically a pattern, the Continental Dollar is an immensely popular item because of its close association with the American Revolution. Strikings are known in pewter (or tin), brass, silver, and copper. It is doubtful if this piece ever actually circulated. Judging from the small hole between the TA in CONTINENTAL, it was suspended and used as some sort of decorative device. The surfaces also show no evidence of contact with other coins. Light rub is seen over the devices, which are a deeper gray than the surrounding fields. Really a very pleasing example of this rare Continental issue. Listed on page 33 of the 2002 Guide Book. From the Keith McIntosh Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
