1776 $1 Continental Dollar, CURENCY, Pewter--Damaged--NCS. VF Details. The noted "damage" occurs in the form of a few minor rim bumps and small dings, really quite undisturbing for a circulated Colonial coin of such historic value. This is, after all, the only Colonial coin that combines the large size of a "dollar" (although no denomination is noted, but roughly the size of the Spanish pillar dollars or "pieces of eight" that were then ubiquitous in circulation) with the historic 1776 date, the year that the United Colonies--henceforth the United States--declared their independence from the British Empire. This piece shows moderate circulation wear, despite its technical status as a pattern coin--but a successful one, as many of the Continental dollars show such wear. A delightful and affordable midgrade example with a couple of darker toning spots. Listed on page 81 of the 2007 Guide Book.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
