1775 PA 2 SHILLINGS AND 1861 BANK PURCHASE RECEIPT
Lot of two items, first, a 1861 receipt for the purchase of $59,700 of Confederate bonds. The bond states that the interest will be at the rate of four cents per annum. Second, a two shillings note for the 1775 colony of Pennsylvania, possibly signed by Richard Humphreys (1750-1832). Humphreys was a goldsmith who founded the African Institute which eventually became the Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, the oldest historic black university in the United States. Two other unknown signatures on the shillings. Receipt is 4 x 8 inches. Shilling is 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
