<B>1775 "Committee of Intelligence" Document.</B></I> One page, 7.75" x 12", np, August 19, 1775. This manuscript was written exactly four months after April 19, 1775, when the famous "Shot Heard Round the World" was fired at the Battles of Lexington and Concord, starting the Revolutionary War and just two short months after the Battle of Bunker Hill. It reads in full: "In Council August 19, 1775. - Resolved that William Sever, Jedediah Foster & Joseph Palmer Esqrs. together with such as the Honble. House shall join, be a standing Committee for the purpose of Transmitting from time to time, to our Delegates at the Honble. Continental Congress all such transactions of the Great & General Court, together with all such other Transaction and events, as may affect the public, and which may appear to said Committee proper and expedient that the said Honble. Congress should be made acquainted with. - Sent down for Concurrence, Perez Morton Dpy. Secry. - In the House of Representatives Aug. 24th 1775 - Read & Concurred and Mr. Devens, Mr. Partridge, Mr. Lothrop & Mr. Gerry are joined to the Committee of the Honble. Board, Sent up for Concurrence, P. Morton Deputy Secretary - Consented to, James Otis, John Winthrop, Elias Taylor, W. Sever, Joseph Gerrish, Michael Farley, Benjamin Greenleaf, John Whetcomb, Samuel Holton, W. Spooner, Enoch Freeman, J. Fisher, Caleb Cushing, Benj. Lincoln and Charles Chauncey." <BR>This document also has a docket on the reverse reading: "<I>Resolve establishing a Comm. of Intelligence - Wm. Sever Esq.</B></I>". In this outstanding, historic document many of the most noted of the radical leading Massachusetts Patriots of the Revolutionary War are listed to form an "Intelligence" or Spy network. Among these notables, Benjamin Lincoln would later become a Major General and Elbridge Gerry, a signer of the Declaration of Independence for Massachusetts. The documentis in very fine condition, with light toning overall, usual folds, some moderate edge wear, and slightly rounded corners. A remarkable, completely original Revolutionary War document by the very founders of that revolution, and created near its outset.
