1775 1/2P Machin's Mills Halfpenny XF40 PCGS. Vlack 4-75A, R.4. A choice specimen of a scarce variety in this increasingly popular series, also the only 1775-dated Machin's variety. The surfaces are attractive and smooth with nice medium brown color. Both sides have an X scratched into the right field, though they are fairly light, especially the one on the reverse. This coin was struck while the dies were in a relatively early die state so there is only minimal bulging on the reverse. This coin is from the finest Machin's collection sold, the "Albany Collection," sold in the 2000 C4 auction, which was also likely one of the finest collections of Machin's Mills coinage ever assembled. While this variety is more likely than most other Machin's Mills counterfeit Halfpence to be found in higher grades, this is the finest specimen that we have seen in an auction. It probably qualifies for the Condition Census, but we don't know of anyone who has assembled a census for these coins.Ex: "Albany Collection" (C4 Auction). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
