c. 1773-1790 Revolutionary War to Federal Era, Lot of TEN (10) British Periodicals, (5) Issues of “The Gentleman’s Magazine” and (5) Issues of “The Universal Magazine,” Disbound, Extremely Fine.
Collection of TEN (10) different British Magazines from the Revolutionary War to Federal Period. “The Gentleman’s Magazine” was published out of London for nearly 200 years, from 1731 to 1922. Several have partial fabric added to their spines, others bound with some looseness at the spine, sold “as is”. This lot of (10) Magazines Includes: Five (5) Issues of “The Gentleman’s Magazine” from the Revolutionary War era:

1. February, 1773- Debates in Parliament.

2. April, 1774- a speech about the Boston Massacre trail, the appointment of General Gage as Governor in Chief and Vice Admiral of Massachusetts-Bay, riots in New York.

3. September, 1776- A point by point repudiation of the American Declaration of Independence, account of the American Army, proceedings in the colonies, Washington's refusal to accept Gen. Howe's letter.

4. October, 1776- an argument against unalienable rights, proceedings of the Virginia and South Carolina Assemblies, the sentiments and principles of American Quakers, an account of the attack on Sullivan's Island, an account of the battle of Brooklyn.

5. December, 1777- A long account of the Battle of Saratoga and the proceedings of the British under Gen Burgoyne, an account of the proceedings of the British under General Clinton including several engagements against General Washington, an intercepted letter from General Washington to Martha detailing both military and personal matters.

1. July, 1765- The passage and explanation of the Stamp Act

2. February, 1769- Report on the state of the American Colonies including the effects of the repeal of the Stamp Act, Virginia Gov. Moore dissolves the Virginia Assembly, Major Robert Rogers courts-martial

3. September, 1774-Boston-over 500 British troops bribed and desert to rebels, 48 day siege of Boston, Penn. & NY resolve support for their brethren in Boston, Virginia sends delegates to the Congress in Phila.

4. October, 1782- Savannah evacuated by British, Loyalists flee Georgia, Congress rejects peace offering made to General Washington, description of battle of Guilford courthouse, a mention of British General Benedict Arnold.

5. April, 1790- 1st Printing of the Address of the inhabitants of Alexandria, VA, to General Washington on leaving his house to accept the Presidency of the United States.
