French & Indian War Royal Artillery Discharge Certification With October 7th, 1763 Royal Proclamation
February 4th, 1772-Dated Colonial Period, Manuscript Document Signed, “Thomas James, Lt. Colonel, Royal Regt. of Artillery,” Official French & Indian War Discharge Certification, including mention of the historic October 7th 1763 Royal Proclamation, Choice Very Fine.
This original Document is dated 1772, where Lt. Colonel Thomas James of the Royal Artillery has signed an official Discharge for Joseph Saxon, a noncommissioned officer, serving in the Royal Artillery in the late war in North America... (referring to the French & Indian War). Signed at lower right by Lt. Colonel Thomas James. This Signed Document reads, in full:

“These are to Certify that the Bearer here of Joseph Saxon in his Majestys Royal Regiment of Artillery hath served a Non Commissioned Officer in the above Regiment During the Late War in North America and is Intitled to two Hundred Acres of Land according to his Majestys Royal Proclamation of the seventh day of October 1763 -- Given under my hand this 4th February 1772 - Thomas James, Lt Colonel Royal Regt. of Artillery”. Additional notation at lower left reads: “Appeared for Land New York 10 Feby 1772 - W.P.”.

Docket on the blank reverse simply reads: “Joseph Saxon”. This rare Military Discharge Document is 1 page, measures 7” x 8” with some light prior mounting traces at the far left, margin selvage. Overall, a nice and easily readable Document that is well written in rich brown ink on clean period laid paper. (Later) Major-General Thomas James served on the coast of France, 1757 and then Commanded the British Royal Artillery during the early part of the American Revolutionary War. James was also the author of the book titled, "Herculanean Straits," being one of the earliest works on Gibraltar. This current French & Indian War Royal Artillery Discharge Certification, Signed by Thomas James of the Royal Artillery is very rare.
