1770 British Act Which Led To The "Boston Massacre". Six pages, 7.5" x 12", np, 1770. Printed by "Mark Baskett, Printer to the King's most Excellent Majesty; and by the Assigns of Robert Baskett. 1767." Reads in part: "An Act to enable His Majesty to put the Customs, and other Duties, in the British Dominions in America…under the Management of Commissioners. - Anno Regni George III…" Passed in conjunction with the Townshend duties, this act established a Board of Commissioners to enforce the law and prevent smuggling. This act would have dire consequences in the year 1770, when the buildup of British troops in Boston who were needed to support the royal Commissioners, resulted in the infamous "Boston Massacre". The act is in very fine condition, with only minor water damage near the upper and lower edges, and a few small tears present from where it was disbound.
