1767 Colonial Massachusetts Almanack “Mein and Fleeming's Massachusets Register...” Noted as Being The “First Register Published in Colonial Massachusetts”
1767-Dated Colonial Era, “Mein and Fleeming's Massachusets Register with an Almanack for the Year MDCCLXVII,” with original Colonial Era Calf Binding, Choice Very Fine.
Colonial American register and Almanac, noted by the American Antiquarian Society for being the First Register Published in Massachusetts. This is an interleaved copy, with contemporary manuscript notes, in a special publisher's calf binding with a pocket inside the back board and flap with a place to tuck into the front board. Calendrical calculations by Benjamin West (1730-1813) identical to those that appear in West's New-England Almanack for 1767. This Almanac was advertised for public sale in the Boston Gazette on February 2, 1767. Manuscript written notes on interior states, “John Day his book” and various Handwritten notes, receipts and a land deed are folded and inserted in the interior pocket. Page 16 which lists “Distances of the most remarkable Towns on the Continent, from Boston...” is present yet disbound from actual extensive use. The outer Calf binding is well worn, but good condition for its age. Interior in very fine condition, some slight separation from binding at the spine but still intact. Overall, a rarely encountered, historic and wonderful piece of Colonial history, would make an excellent display.
