1766 1/2P Pitt Halfpenny XF45 PCGS. Betts-519, Breen-251. Sir William Pitt faces left, wearing a long wig and military garb on the obverse. The obverse legend refers to the fight against the Stamp Act that was intended to restrict free trade: THE RESTORER OF COMMERCE 1766, above, and NO STAMPS, below. The reverse legend continues the same theme: AMERICA, THANKS TO THE FRIENDS OF LIBERTY AND TRADE.
It is believed that these pieces were produced in colonial America, perhaps New York or Philadelphia. Included as part of the Betts series of American historical medals, they are also actively collected as part of the colonial series. Smooth chocolate-brown surfaces are intermingled with lighter tan and darker steel color. Listed on page 48 of the 2008 Guide Book.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
