1766<1/2P> Pitt Halfpenny AU53 PCGS. Breen-251. The "Great Commoner," Sir William Pitt, became a hero to Colonial merchants when he opposed the hated 1765 Stamp Act. He was honored on privately issued tokens, struck with farthing and halfpenny diameters, and in copper, brass, silver, silvered copper, and tin alloys. The copper halfpennies are the most available among these combinations, and many eventually entered commerce. This lightly circulated golden-brown example has an attractive appearance, and only a single faded pinscratch on each side.
