RICHARD STOCKTON (1730-1781). Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey, American Lawyer, Chief Justice, Legislator, elected to the Second Continental Congress.
April 2, 1762-Dated Colonial, French and Indian War Period, Autograph Document Signed, “Rich. Stockton” being a Receipt fully Handwritten by Stockton on fine laid period paper measuring 4.5” x 8”, at Cape May, Cumberland County (NJ), Choice Very Fine. This entire document is clean and pleasing, written by Stockton’s own hand in deep bold brown, being easily readable. It is Signed by him at lower right. This fiancial note relates to monies received relative to land in Cape May. Stockton’s signature is bold and he completes it with a an almost 2” flourish below. Stockton is one of the rarer, less noticed “Signers,” hence his signature is more valuable and sought-after as a Signer of the Declaration of Independence.
