1759-Dated, True First Edition Hardcover Book titled, “An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pensylvania, From its Origin; So far as regards the Several Points of Controversy,...” (History of Pennsylvania), authored by Benjamin Franklin, Printed for R. Griffiths, London, Choice Very Fine.
The title page of the 1759 Benjamin Franklin authored book reads, “An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pensylvania, From its Origin; So far as regards the feveral Points of Controversy, which have, from Time to Time, arisen Between The Several Governors of that Province, and Their feveral Assemblies. Founded on authentic Documents.” A famous historic quote from the book also appears: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Page 289.” Gilt text printed on its spine reads: “History of Pensylvan.”

This is a true First Edition; it was not until the American Edition in 1812 that Benjamin Franklin’s name actually appears as the author on the title page. Original Hardcover in contemporary Calf, measuring 8.25” x 5.25”, octavo, choice Very Fine, 444 pages complete. Some wear at folds of spine, but still fully intact. First sheet with outer tone from the leather cover transfer. Interior pages are crisp and well printed. A beautiful instance of a rare and interesting book authored by Benjamin Franklin from the French and Indian War era, well before the American Revolution.
