This 10th edition of George Fisher’s “The American Instructor,” revised and corrected, printed by Benjamin Franklin and D. Hall at the new printing office at Market Street, is an nteresting accumulation of all the knowledge required by a young man in the late 1700s: reading, writing, arithmetic, carpenter’s skills, agricultural information, human diseases, history, etc. This edition is 384 pages, includes addendums, corrections, and comments “By the Printer” (Franklin), as well as a promotional final page, “Lately published, and to be sold by B. FRANKLIN and D. HALL, at the new printing office, the following BOOKS, viz…” followed by a list and description of 9 books.

In overall good condition and complete, lacking its back hardcover. The interior is tight, with some expected scattered foxing, minor tears and chipping on several pages. There are 2 blank practice pages after the penmanship section which have been filled by various owners, dated 1768, 1770, 1778, 1779, 1789, and 1813. An important opportunity for collectors and fans of Benjamin Franklin to acquire one of his earlier rare printed books from his historic Philadelphia shops printing press.
