This coin was consigned as a NY 1944 Colonial, but after not finding a match for the image, I spent an hour researching it. It turns out it is an issue of the Dutch east India company. To fulfill a shortage of currency in its expanding territories, from 1726 to 1794, copper duits were struck at provincial mints in The Netherlands. Coins showing the VOC monogram and the coats of arms of Holland, West Friesland, Zeeland, and Utrecht. These 4 were different Provinces in the Netherlands. This Issue has the Lion Left on waves which indicates the Zeeland mint. The Obverse has the Large V overlapped by a smaller o and c which was the Logo for the Dutch East India Company, which when translated back to Dutch, the company name was Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, hence VOC. A great coin with a great history. Many did find their way to the colonies and did circulate as coinage in the colonies.
