1733 Letter to Thomas Penn From Edward Southwell
1733 Letter to Thomas Penn From Edward Southwell. Two pages, 6” x 7.75”, London, September 6, 1733, to Thomas Penn, Philadelphia. Thomas Penn inherited the position of Proprietor of the Colony of Pennsylvania for the Crown of England. He had not long been in Pennsylvania when Southwell sent this letter. Southwell writes: “I won't compliment you, on the many honors you have received, of which our newspapers are full.” Southwell also updates Penn on the political situation in England: “it is my opinion Sr Rh Walpole cant sic hold itt sic two years longer, for I think itt sic is impossible he should make a majority next election…the people are very much against him.” An interesting letter of the period, toned and moderately stained, yet legible and in near very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
