<B>1723<PENNY> Rosa Americana Penny AU50 PCGS.</B></I> Breen-120. Prototype Penny. Crowned Rose. 24 pellets at center. This is the extremely rare variety (according to Breen) discovered by Richard Picker sometime prior to 1971. There seems to be some confusion about the varieties of this type. Breen numbers 120 through 123 all have a stop after REX, but no stop after the date. Breen-120 has 24 pellets at the center of the rose, and the others each have 17 pellets. In the Ford Catalog (part IX), Michael Hodder identified lots 130 through 135 all as the Breen-121 variety, even though lots 130, 131, 132, and 134 have the higher count of pellets. This example has pleasing olive and medium brown coloration with glossy surfaces. Faint corrosion along with a few tiny hairlines are visible on both sides.
