<B>1723<PENNY> Rosa Americana Penny AU50 PCGS.</B></I> Breen-120. Stop after REX. No stop after 1723. Small 3. At least 24 pellets in the center of the rose, meeting the requirements of Breen-120 which he described as "Extremely Rare." This variety may not be quite so rare, as the Ford sale (part IX) contained four similar pieces, although all of those were listed as Breen-121. We also note that this example has Medal-Turn die alignment, unlike nearly every other Rosa Americana and Hibernia piece in this sale. Coin-Turn die alignment is the usual orientation. Light olive and chestnut-brown in color, this gently circulated Penny has a few faint marks in the field near the nose but is otherwise relatively unabraded. A whisper of verdigris is of little consequence. The Rosa Americana and Hibernia issues were struck by William Wood, who purchased a patent from the English King to strike colonial coppers.
