16th Century Style Venetian Schiavona Broadsword

Produced in the 1700s using a German-made blade, the Schiavona was first associated with the Eastern European mercenaries employed by the Republic of Venice, later becoming a popular export item for both military and civilian buyers. Overall length is 40 3/4 inches, with a 34 1/2 inch double edged blade, a short single fuller on each side marked "INTI DOMNNI" and capped with an engraved running wolf design, which is the mark of the city of Solengen. Fitted with a very intricate basket hilt, showing an asymmetrical design which flares out from the front quillon, reaches down to the pommel and reconverges on the rear quillon, which has a short projection beyond the basket, turned 90 degrees to the right. Oval grip, with an interwoven wire wrap, right handed thumb rest, and a "cat's head" pommel disc with floral patterns on each side. With a leather wrapped and metal banded wood scabbard.
