"Francorum Regum Simulacra a Pharamundo ad Ludovicum XIV faustè regnantem per temporum seriem distributa..." Published Rome, 1686 (Romae, ex officina Io. Iacobi de Rubeis, ad Templum S. Mariae de Pace. Cum Priv. S. Pont. An. MDCLXXXVI). Translation: "Images of the Kings of the Franks, from Pharamond to the reigning Louis XIV, arranged in chronological order..." "...Based on coins, statues, paintings, and the most notable monuments, whether bronze or marble, found in the Kingdom of France. These have been carefully collected and newly engraved in Rome, at the workshop of Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi, near the Church of Santa Maria della Pace. Published with the privilege of the Holy See in the year 1686." This 1686 work, published in Rome by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi, presents engraved portraits and monuments of the kings of France, from the legendary Pharamond to Louis XIV, arranged chronologically. It draws upon numismatic, sculptural, and pictorial representations-both bronze and marble-preserved in the Kingdom of France. The text emphasizes that many of these were based on authentic historical sources and were newly engraved with great care in Rome. The work is both a historical record and a visual celebration of French royal lineage, aligned with the grandeur of Louis XIV's reign. It exemplifies the Baroque fascination with genealogy, antiquity, and the divine right of kings. 13.5 x 9.5" Foxing, partial bookplate and inscriptions on inside cover.
