<B>1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Small Planchet--Double Struck--VF25 PCGS.</B></I> Noe-29, R.3. An interesting example of this relatively common variety in the Small Planchet shilling series. This piece is double struck, as stated on the insert; undoubtedly from a second, off-centered pass through the cylindrical dies mounted in a screw press--a radical departure from the method of manufacture used on the earlier Willow Tree coinage. At least half the letters on each side are off the planchet. The surfaces are attractive and original with dark blue-gray patina in the fields and contrasting brilliantish-silver accents over the devices.
