1652HILNG> Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, No Pellets MS63 NGC. Noe-8, R.4. 70.96 grains. A remarkable high grade example of this popular Colonial type. Attractively patinated in orange-gold, ivory-gray, and lilac hues. Luster sparkles across the undisturbed surfaces, which are somewhat wavy as made from a rocker press. The pine tree is essentially fully struck, and all letters are crisp aside from the base of the first T in MASATHVSETS. Four small, straight clips were made by mint personnel to bring the piece within weight. These clips span from 11 o'clock to 4:30, and do not affect any letters. The dies are late for Noe-8, with the bases of the GL in ENGLAND merged by crumbling, and additional crumbling noted on the OM in ANDOM. Listed on page 37 of the 2007 Guide Book. Census: 1 in 63, 1 finer (7/06).
