1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling AU53 PCGS. Noe-5. Crosby 2-D. R.2. 71.0 grains. An exceptional specimen that nicely displays the slight planchet waviness typical of coins struck on a rocker press. Pleasant medium gray coloration with a bit of nice contrast and just a touch of iridescence. The oak tree is a bit weak. The dies were misaligned, as typically seen, most notably showing the edge the die at the bottom of the reverse. The right side of the reverse also displays the die break usually seen. Sharper than the Norweb specimen. This was the finer of the two specimens in the spectacular Hain collection. Wonderful as a type specimen or to represent the die variety in a specialist's collection.Ex: Hain (Stack's, 1/02), lot 23, where it brought $8,337.50.
