1652 SHILNG Oak Tree Shilling AU50 PCGS. Noe-3, Crosby 9-G, R.6. 70.4 grains. Light aqua-blue, rose-pink, and tan toning enriches this satiny and wavy Oak Tree shilling. The tree is exquisitely detailed, as is the date and denomination. The horizontal recession on the obverse exergue is in fact an impression from the lower edge of the obverse die, as explained in Hain:18. The vertical left edge of the obverse die is also partly present. The obverse is misaligned toward 1 o'clock, as always seen, and the reverse is misaligned toward 5 o'clock, as usually encountered. Indistinct detail on the upper reverse is because the die was weakly engraved in that area. A straight clip at 3 o'clock is mint-made, to bring the piece within weight standards. A small edge flaw at 9 o'clock is also as made. The only detraction is a thin dig on the left upright of the A in AN DO, which causes a raised, flat area opposite near 3 o'clock. Listed on page 37 of the 2008 Guide Book.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
