Broadside issued by England's House of Commons on 17 January 1641 asserting their displeasure with the appearance of King Charles and his armed mob on their doorstep. Charles' failed attempt to arrest 5 members for treason is chronicled here: ''...His Majesty in His Royall Person, came to the Said House attended with a great multitude of men armed in warlike manner, with Halberts, Swords, and Pistolls, who came up to the very door of the House...to the great Terror and Disturbance of the Members then sitting...'' Charles' reign and the English Civil War ended with his dethronement 8 years later. The monarchy was then abolished until 1660. Broadside measures 11'' x 14.5'', mounted to paper to an overall size of 11.5'' x 18.5''. Foxing, toning and slight irregularly trimmed edges. Separation to fold edges of lowermost segment, and a small chip to upper left edge. Overall very good considering age.
