Letter form Edmund B. Jones of the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Company C. Accompanied by cover. Written in ink and datelined ''Huntersville Feb 12th /65,'' letter reads in part: ''…Your leter…just came to hand, and after reading its contents…I came to the conclusion that my unknown lady friend is truly a lover of soldiers and their cause, now mind I am going to be plain…I want you to make me a needle case you can send it by mail…Well enjoy yourself while you can and while your young, for when you get old, you can't…Your Improvement Society reminds me of my old school days, when I was going Pennington Seminary in New Jersey. The young men took a notion of forming a society…and instead of its improving us in speech, it improved us in the art of mischief making, of course the Young Ladies…took a part in the proceedings…they learned us the art of kissing…Old Camp rumor says we are going to leave this place tomorrow and go back to our old den near Chattenooga, and the pirates of the Wauhatchie will commence their depredations again…'' The 15th Pennsylvania was engaged in battle at Antietam, Stone's River, Wilkinson's Cross Roads, Snow Hill, Mossy Creek and Decatur. Edmund Jones mustered into Company C on 18 October 1862 and was promoted to Quarter Master Sergeant before being mustered out on 18 July 1865. Letter measures 7.5'' x 9.75'' and runs 2.5pp. Mild foxing and a few small holes at creases, otherwise near fine condition.
