15TH TO 17TH CENTURY GERMAN CLOSE HELMET & ENGLISH

GAUNTLETS. The lg. close helmet appears to be an early Victorian recreation & shows significant age. The gauntlets are likely later Victorian recreations but are very true to form & complete.
1) HELMET. Helmet measures approx. 11 1/2" x 10" at the widest point. The upper & lower pieces articulate at the same point as does the visor. The plates & attachment hooks are all riveted & all parts of the helmet are iron including the attachment hooks. The iron shows great age w/ evidence of pitting particularly around the lower plates. Though we do not belive this to be a period helmet, we do think it was produced early in the Victorian period, possibly even during the reign of George IV or William IV. CONDITION: overall the helmet has a dark, oxidized patina w/ evidence of pitting particularly around the base plates. All hinged points still function well.
2) GAUNTLETS. A very attractive pair of armored gauntlets likely produced during the Victorian period in the manner of the 15th to 17th century. All fingers are articulated w/ multiple plates. The wrist is articulated w/ 4 plates. The gauntlets are constructed totally of iron. The rear edge & high points are polished bright & the remainder of the gauntlets have a black finish. CONDITION: gauntlets are still completely functional. All plates are present. Leather hinges behind plates remain relatively strong w/ minor cracking. (02-16673-20/BF). $1,000-1,500.
