<B>1595 Abraham Ortelius Handcolored Map of Turkey, Egypt, and Carthage</B></I> from his monumental work <I>Theatrum Orbis Terrarum</B></I> (Theatre of the World). This is considered to be the first atlas published and appeared originally in 1570, the most expensive book ever published at that time. This present map titled in the original Latin <I>Natolia olim Asia Minor, Aegyptus, Carthaginiensis Portus</B></I> is a magnificent example of the cartographer's art; it is 22" x 17" in size with colors as bright as the day they were painted. The plate, removed from a 1595 edition, has text on the subject lands in Latin with large and colorful historiated dropcaps. Condition is very fine with only minor toning around the edges. An excellent map for display from the father of the modern atlas.
