STAR TREK CHRONOLOGY (1993)/STAR TREK ENCYCLOPEDIA (1994) - Michael and Denise Okuda Collection: USS Essex Reference Model - A USS Essex reference model from the Star Trek Chronology and Star Trek Encyclopedia reference books. Gregory Jein created this reference model for use in the books, with the starship's Daedalus-class based on an early concept that Matt Jefferies created in 1964 for the Original Series Enterprise. Resin castings of this original model were later created for use in Sisko's office in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas.

This model, which comes from the collection of celebrated Star Trek franchise artists and advisors Michael and Denise Okuda, is assembled from multiple materials, including resin, plastic, and metal, and features a spherical forward section, cylindrical hull, and two warp nacelles with pointed fronts reminiscent of the Original Series pilot Enterprise. It is painted gray with black windows and red embellishments made from graphic tape, the designation "NCC-176 United Federation," and includes a "U.S.S. Horizon" stern plate (as both vessels were of the same class). It exhibits signs of age, including staining, tape lifting, paint chipping, and adhesive residue. Dimensions: 18" x 11" x 6" (45.75 cm x 28 cm x 15.25 cm)Though their long and celebrated careers in the Star Trek world began in features, Michael and Denise Okuda established themselves as franchise legends while working on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Michael became art supervisor on TNG, while Denise came on as a scenic artist during Deep Space Nine, roles they would continue to perform through Voyager, Enterprise, and the Next Generation films. Married in 1993, the Okudas are known as the driving forces behind the development of many of the now-iconic 24th-century technologies seen throughout the series, including the famous "Okudagrams" they created for the LCARS (Library Computer Access and Retrieval System) interfaces . Propstore is proud to present a selection of key memorabilia from the personal collection of one of the franchise's most important creative teams to the public for the first time.
