Now on to the detail. And what remarkable detail this rare piece has to offer: this lovely Judd-1217 Commercial Dollar is not just close to, but completely and sharply struck, with terrific definition at Liberty seated as an Indian Princess (so-called by early day connoisseurs of the Type). Two flags stick out behind her, while Liberty rests her hand on a globe of the world inscribed LIBERTY in raised letters. In her other hand she holds a staff on which is tipped a liberty cap. This is William Barber's rendition of a design first created by James B. Longacre, Barber's predecessor as chief engraver at the mint. The way that we can tell this is Barber's work is that there are 13 stars on the flag instead of Longacre's 22. On the reverse is the Commercial Dollar type introduced in 1871. COMMERCIAL DOLLAR 420 GRS. 900 FINE lie within an olive wreath. GOD OUR TRUST on a ribbon uniting the branches below; UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above the wreath (PCGS # 61488).
Estimated Value $50,000-60,000.

Our item number 113978
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
