1408 John Cusack Cassette Recorder
“1408” (2007 is based on a Stephen King short story, it’s about a Los Angeles based writer of paranormal activity (John Cusack), who is at a point in his career where he is beginning to believe that there is no such thing as ghost. However after receiving an anonymous tip about the old Dolphin Hotel in New York, he flies out to investigate. In particular, he wants to stay in the infamous Room 1408, which has not had a lot of luck with its guests. In fact, when he requests the room, the Hotel Manager, Gerald Olin (Samuel L. Jackson) refuses, telling him that in the last 95 years, 56 guests have died in that room. Of course Cusack insist on checking in. Being a writer, Cusack has brought with him two of his most important tools: a laptop and a mini-cassette recorder. This is the actual hero screen-used recorder that Cusack uses in the movie. It’s in perfect condition, and has an amazing bonus. This actual working recorder includes a cassette which has Cusack’s voice from the movie! Some of the recordings have extra value, since they also seem to be recordings Cusack made of lines from the movie. A very common technique for actors to learn their dialogue is to record them, then play them back over and over. This recorder also has an important role at the end of the movie, both in the original ending, and also in the alternative ending (which is the ending of choice on the Blu Ray Version). This is such a special piece that a custom display has been crafted for it. It is made of jet black Plexiglas, and includes a display stand for the recorder and two framed color photos, one a screen shot of Cusack using the recorder in the movie, and the other of the official lobby card of “1408”. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. (The recorder is a Sanyo Model #TRC-5880 and is approx 5x2.5x1”. The display case is 9” high with two 5x4.5” framed photos). Batteries are included!
