This vintage set of 12 cream soup spoons in the Nuremburg pattern were made by the Alvin Manufacturing Company in 1903 and are marked Sterling/Patent with the earliest backstamp of an A with an eagle on the left and an anchor on the right.
The company which started in 1886 in Irvington, New Jersey were manufacturers of sterling silver flatware, hollowware and toiletware and in 1919 moved to Providence, Rhode Island. Alvin Silver Company was purchased by the Gorham Mfg. Company in 1928 and became the Alvin Corporation, which is still a division of Gorham.
Very ornately done the front has a Gothic face pattern, also referred to as the Northwind, with flower and leaf designs above and below it and an area to place a monogram. None of these spoons have monograms and are in very good condition without dings or dents but do have light scratching throughout from years of use and age and measure 6 7/8 inches long with a bowl that measures 1 3/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches. A wonderful addition to any service of 12 in the Nuremburg pattern or Vintage Sterling Silverware Collection.
SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
