LANG & SON WITH CASE. Cal. 12 Ga., 2". S# 18711 (circa 1946). 2" guns became very popular in the 1930s & this trend continued through the post WWII era. This early post WWII gun has 26" dovetailed bbls. silver inlaid "For 2 inch case only" on swamped game rib. Tops of bbls. engraved "Joseph Lang & Son." "Bury St. St. Jame's London". Bbl. flats stamped w/ London nitro proofs for 2" chambers & 7/8 oz. of shot. Bottoms of bbls. engraved w/ serial numbers. Case hardened boxlock action features automatic safety (safe inlaid in gold) & dbl. triggers. Action engraved w/ geometric borders & some sprays of scroll. Maker's name is on each side. Blued trigger guard, floorplate, & top lever are engraved to match. S# is on trigger guard tang. Lightly marbled & somewhat figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 15" over serrated wood butt on 1/2" extension. Stock also features nicely shaped drop points, point pattern checkering w/ mullered borders at grip & a vacant silver oval on toeline. Matching short splinter ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: bbls.: bore diameter: right: .734", left: .734". Restriction: right: .017" (MOD), left: .045" (EXTRA FULL). Minimum Wall Thickness: right: .022", left: .025". STOCK: DAH: 2 1/8+". DAC: 1 1/2". LOP: 15". CAST: approx 1" off. WEIGHT: 5 lbs. 9 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun housed in an English style leather case (possibly original) w/ stitched leather corners lined in green felt. An Atkin, Grant & Lang paper label is in lid. Case contains 2 piece cleaning rod w/ brush & mop & a pair of AGL marked snap caps. CONDITION: very fine as refinished. Bbls. w/ nearly all of a good quality reblack. Action w/ over 90% of a case recolor hardening w/ silver ring around bottom from normal hand wear. There are some noted flecking in blue of secondary blued parts, mostly on trigger guard tang. Stocks retain nearly all of a good quality oil refinish after addition of a lengthening piece. Checkering does not appear to have been recut & shows light wear & some clogging w/ oil. Bores are bright & shiny w/ no noted repairs or problems. Action is tight, bbls. are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Case leather is fine w/ a few rubs & marks. Interior cloth is also fine w/ some light soiling & compressions. Label has one rub & is generally very fine. Accessories are good. (21-4039/MGM). CURIO. $2,750-4,250.
