The elegance of the wines produced in this old cultivated landscape in the heart of Europe is founded on its topographic, geological and climatic disposition. The Burgundy vineyards lie at an intersection: it is where the restrained warmth of the South meets the cool crispness of the North. Due to this, the grapes can develop complexity at full maturity and still don’t lose their natural freshness. This is not only true for the white Burgundy, grown from Chardonnay, but also the red Burgundy, made from Pinot noir. What makes Burgundy an exceptional wine-growing region, however, are the small, rural configurations that have caused generations of vintners to intensively grapple with the small parcels of vine-growing land in attempts to cultivate sublime wines. This continuity over centuries is brought to fruition in all of the finest Burgundy wines.

Robert Parker rated all of these wines in his Burgundy Book from 1990. He rated the Romanée-Conti 95 points, the Richebourg 93 points, the Grands Échezeaux 90 points, The Romanée-St. Vivant 87 points, the La Tâche 93 points and the Échezeaux 90 points.
