This lot comprises twelve bottles of 1985 vintage Château Talbot from the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux.

Saint-Julien is an appellation in Médoc by the Gironde estuary, adjacent to Pauillac. The predominant grape variety here is Cabernet Sauvignon and the wines are powerful, complex and long-lived. The wines from the northern part of the appellation are comparable to those from Pauillac, while in the south the wines tend to be more elegant like those from Margaux. In the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855 there are no premier cru wine estates in Saint-Julien, although the best grand crus of the region, including Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, would most likely be rated even higher today.

1985 was an extremely successful wine year in Bordeaux that often wrongly stands in the shadow of the 1982 and 1986 vintages. Wines from this year are unique in their richness and complexity. This is a mature wine that will undoubtedly be a true pleasure to drink.

The 1985 vintage Talbot was rated 90 points by Robert Parker in 2003. James Suckling gave it the same score in a 1994 issue of Wine Spectator.

The fill levels are good (1x upper shoulder, 3x top shoulder) to excellent (4x base of neck, 4x into neck). Some labels are slightly soiled; the capsules are in perfect condition.
