<B>Eleven Confederate Issues of the <I>Daily Richmond Examiner</B></I>,</B></I> a fine singlesheet (printed both sides, 17" x 24") publication from the capital of the Confederacy. The <I>Examiner</B></I> was founded in 1859 and lasted until 1867 when it merged with the <I>Enquirer</B></I> to become the <I>Daily Enquirer and Examiner.</B></I> During the war its principal editor was Edward Albert Pollard who supported the Confederacy but was openly hostile to Jefferson Davis. The dates included in this fine collection are as follows (stories mentioned are all front page): <BR><B>December 15, 1862</B></I>- "The Battle of Fredericksburg- Another Confederate Victory" <BR><B>January 3, 1863</B></I>- "Our Victory in the West. Our Victory complete the Enemy Routed and in Retreat...Four of Their Generals Killed..." <BR><B>May 29, 1863</B></I>- "Acts and Resolutions of the Congress of the Confederate States...An Act to Lay Taxes for the Common Defense..." <BR><B>June 2, 1863</B></I>- "From Fredericksburg...Hooker is on the move..." <BR><B>July 10, 1863</B></I>- "From General Lee's Army" <BR><B>August 5, 1863</B></I>- "Proclamation by the President of the Confederate States" <BR><B>November 23, 1863</B></I>- "Important from Tennessee- General Lonstreet at Knoxville- Burnside Retreating- His Army Demoralized- Twenty-two Hundred Yankees Captured" <BR><B>February 8, 1864</B></I>- "The War News- Richmond Threatened by the Enemy- The Yankees in Large Force at Talleysville" <BR><B>March 14, 1864</B></I>- "From Longstreet's Command" (this issue has damage with some paper loss) <BR><B>May 7, 1864</B></I>- "Desperate Battle Between the Two Armies in Virginia" <BR><B>May 16, 1864</B></I>- "The Situation on the Southside- Latest from General Lee's Army" <BR>All issues (except as noted) are in very good condition.
