<Our item number 113836>1918/7-S Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. NGC graded AU-58. Mostly white with a very clear overdate. A popular key date. One of the choices AU58 graded quarters of this classic rarity any collector could hope to own, this one has snowy white luster around the periphery, throughout the devices, and spanning the fields on both sides. We put the luster at close to 95% complete. Competing with the flashy luster for your attention are the well struck devices. Not all of the head detail is present, but quite enough to satisfy the connoisseur of this series. We must note that this date is nearly impossible to locate with a full head. The other areas carry the weight of the design with flying colors (so to speak). The surfaces remain quite clean, free of spotting, with just a couple of tiny tick marks hidden here and there.

This is one of the great rarities of the early 20th century. Few overdates were created, and all are well regarded by collectors. Perhaps one thousand of these exist, the grading services having seen slightly more than 500 in all grades high and low. It is possible that more may be out there in coin land still sitting in albums, having been put away decades ago. However, this possibility grows more tentative as they years go by. This handsome 1918-S overdate one has the minute diagnostics noted in the Breen Encyclopedia. The overdate is plain with or without a magnifying glass. Apparently in the rush to get dies prepared, one 1918 die received a blow from the 1917 master hub, then the hub was switched to the 1918 hub, and the die was stamped again. No one noticed the overdate, or if they did, weren't concerned enough to withdraw it, and the die was shipped to San Francisco and put into production, much to the delight of collectors. Pop 31; 43 finer (PCGS # 5726).
Estimated Value $13,000-14,000.

Our item number 113836
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
